I killed my baby (not really)

So my girlfriend spilled some Coke (the drink not the drug) on my Powerbook G4 17″. To make a long story short, I took this upon myself as a DIY project…bad idea.

So I found some great guides at PBFixit.com which helped a whole lot while doing this. I also got a new part (specifically the left latch hook assembly which was too gunked up to fix) from PBParts.com. The trouble started when I decided to use tiny screwdrivers to pry off the display housing instead of a proper “spudger” tool (think a slim-jim for a computer). The act of prying bent the brackets on the inside of my display housing and rendered it too loose to re-attach.

I am now waiting on replies from several of these 3rd party Powerbook part vendors for a new display housing. It shouldn’t be too expensive, but I feel naked without my child while I wait. See attached: a picture of my dismantled computer. Sorry for the poor quality, I am at home without any of my good cameras.

Edit: I couldn’t stand waiting for a reply anymore so I re-assembled the laptop. It doesn’t look horrible but the blemishes bother me. The display housing also hangs a little loose on there. I will probably end up sending it to a 3rd party service center. Oh well…
